The United States Central Command confirmed that a missile fired by the Houthi rebels in Yemen struck an American-owned ship in the Gulf of Aden on Monday.
“On Jan. 15 at approximately 4 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and struck the M/V Gibraltar Eagle, a Marshall Islands-flagged, U.S.-owned and operated container ship,” U.S. Central Command stated. CENTCOM went on to say there were no injuries reported nor any significant damage, and that the vessel continued its journey.
On Sunday, a U.S. fighter jet intercepted a Houthi-fired cruise missile that was headed toward the USS Laboon in the Red Sea. There has been an increase in attacks against American forces and commercial vessels since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.
